COAST ATTRACTIONS
This spectacular region stretches from Double Island Point in the north to
Bribie Island in the south. It boasts natural, unspoilt beaches with
varying levels of surf and a cool elevated hinterland inland from the
coast.
Noosa enjoys
a very beautiful location and is a prized address. It is the most
fashionable and up market centre on the Sunshine Coast. It has
always been known as one of the better surfing spots on the Sunshine
Coast and a popular holiday resort. Day trips to Cooloola National
Park, Lake Cootharaba, Teewah coloured sands and the
Eumundi markets are all very popular. For unspoiled tranquility and
pristine beaches, visit Sunshine and Peregian.

is a popular spot due to the excellent surf beach. It has now become a
centre for holiday apartment and resort development along the coast to
Noosa. A popular side trip is a visit to Yandina with a stop at
Gingertown.
Maroochydore
offers a combination of golden beaches, parks and the Maroochydore
River. It is considered by many to be the heart of the Sunshine
Coast and was only "discovered" by the masses during the
60's. It is now characterised by popular holiday resorts with a
mixture of modern developments together with original holiday homes. A
popular visit is to the medieval castle at nearby Bli Bli
and the two-thirds replica of Captain Cook's vessel, Endeavour
Mooloolaba has
been a centre for major waterfront residential development on the
Sunshine Coast. A trawler fleet operates from Mooloolaba and there is an
attractive marina. Try the shoping at The Wharf and pay
a visit to Underwater World. There is no shortage of
good surf beaches in the area and nearby Alexandra
Headland has some of the best. Alexandra Headland has
rapidly become one of the most popular holiday destinations on the
Sunshine Coast. Take a trip to Buderim and visit
the Pioneer Cottage.

Caloundra
is traditionally a family holiday destination and is surrounded by 12 km
of beaches. This popular fishing spot accesses the Pumicestone Channel
which is popular with water sports enthusiasts. A 12 km stretch of surf
beach links Caloundra to Mooloolaba in the north. Take a trip to the
Queensland Air Museum and have a beer at the nearby Ettamogah pub.

The Hinterland sits
atop the Blackall Range and overlooks the Sunshine
Coast with some magnificent views. The area boasts some rich, fertile
countryside and quaint country towns which are popular day trip
destinations. A popular trip is the circuit starting in Noosa and
heading west to Tewantin, Cooroy, Eumundi,
Kenilworth and then swinging south to Mapleton and
Flaxton. Stop off at the Kondalilla National Park
and enjoy the waterfalls. Proceed on to Montville, Yandina
and back to the coast at Coolum. Take advantage
of the numerous opportunities for tea and scones, local arts and crafts.
The Woodford
folk festival in late December has become a major
event in the region.
No holiday on the
Sunshine Coast is complete without a visit to the unusual Glasshouse
Mountains, inland from Caloundra. This is an excellent opportunity
for scenic drives, bushwalking and rock-climbing. Climbs are of varying
levels of difficulty.
